The SNOO mimics the feeling of being in the womb, which can soothe babies and make them feel secure. The SNOO has sensors that detect a baby's movements and respond with gentle rocking and white noise to create a soothing effect. The bed also swaddles the baby safely to prevent the baby from rolling over onto their stomach, which is a risk factor for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).

 

Buying a SNOO can be costly - generally about $1,600 which has generally meant it is mostly available to higher incomes families. Noted celebrities who have used the SNOO and have endorsed include mothers like Jessica Alba, Mila Kunis, Kate Hudson, and Beyoncé. The good news is that the SNOO can now be rented at a much lower cost and efforts are underway with the FDA to make the SNOO coverable by insurance given its proven links to better sleep in babies and a reduced risk of SIDS. Rental and coverage by insurance are critical next steps as most babies will only use it for until about 3 to 6 months of age.
